Nine Years Theatre's belief in learning and training is not limited to the creators, but extends to our relationship with our audiences. We aspire to create a platform in the form of lecture / workshop that shares knowledge of theatre arts with the spectators. Our objectives are firstly, to develop an informed audience who can better appreciate the works on stage and secondly, to in turn encourage the creators to continuously strive for quality in their productions.
Audience Knowledge Sharing Platform -- Session 2
Defining and Positioning the Singapore Mandarin Theatre
Date: 15 February 2014
Time: 2.30 - 4.00pm
Venue: NYT Studio (28 Aliwal St #03-02, Aliwal Arts Centre, Singapore 199918)
Since the 1980s, Singapore Mandarin theatre companies have been searching for the defining qualities of local Mandarin theatre. In the face of professionalism, industrialization, international and cross-disciplinary collaboration, and the cultural impact brought about by new immigrants, how have the definition and positioning of Singapore Mandarin theatre changed?
NYT is honoured to have 3 actor-directors of the local Mandarin theatre scene - Oliver Chong, Liu Xiaoyi and Peter Sau - join our artistic director, Nelson Chia, in a conversation on the above topic. There will be a discussion with the audience at the end of the event. We welcome those who are interested to join us in this conversation.
